やりくり【遣り繰り】
making do; tiding over; management; manipulation; a makeshift.
~する manage 《with [without]…》; make shift 《with…》; make do 《with [on]…》; contrive 《to do》; scratch along.

●うまくやりくりする manage well

・時間をやりくりする make time 《to do》; manage to find time 《to do

・なんとか時間をやりくりして代わりに行ってくれ. I want you to make time to go for me [in my place].

・どうにか仕事をやりくりして友人の結婚式に駆けつけた. I managed to arrange things at work so I could make it to my friend's wedding.

・乏しい予算をやりくりする manage on [make do with] a small budget

・わずかな小遣いをやりくりして念願のカメラを買った. I made shift with the small allowance I received and bought the camera I had wanted for so long.

・わずかな貯金をやりくりして数か月食いつないだ. I managed to keep myself fed for several months by stretching out my meager savings.

・手持ちの材料でなんとかやりくりするしかない. I'll just have to make shift with the materials I have [on hand].

●その場しのぎのやりくり an expedient; a makeshift

・資金のやりくり financial juggling; raising funds.

●やりくり上手な resourceful; good at managing

・やりくり上手な主婦 a housewife good at juggling household expenses.

やりくりが下手[上手]だ be a poor [good] manager

・私はどうも家計のやりくりがうまくない. I'm not very good at managing the household budget.

・どんなに倹約していても, 給料日前にはどうにもやりくりがつかなくなることがある. No matter how frugally I live, sometimes I end up scraping bottom before payday.

・あちこちに頼み込んでようやくスタッフのやりくりがついた. By asking around everywhere, I was finally able to scrape together a staff.

●日々のやりくりで疲れ果てる be worn out by the daily struggle to make ends meet.

●運転資金のやりくりに頭を悩ます[追われる] be hard put to scrape together operating costs.

やりくりをつける =~する

・政府の財政は無理なやりくりを重ねている. The Government has repeatedly cobbled together stopgap financial measures.

やりくり算段 contrivances; cutting and contriving; a plan for tiding over difficulties.
